Abstract : This paper evaluates the effects of research and development (R&D) place-based policies implemented by regional governments using a unique database covering collaborative R&D subsidies granted by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region from 2009 to 2021. Using a staggered event study design, and controlling for non-regional supports, dynamic effects on employment, turnover, exports and financial performance are assessed. Regional support generates a gradual increase in turnover and employment, with a more pronounced effect emerging several years later, underscoring the need for long-term evaluations. Interaction effects reveal that regional policies particularly benefit companies that do not yet receive national aid, highlighting complementarities between policy levels.
